The College of Arts at the University of Baghdad founded the Department of Oriental Languages in the academic year 1969\u20131970 as one of its scientific departments. At that\u00a0time, the department had three branches:\u00a0Hebrew languages, \u00a0Persian languages, \u00a0Turkish languages. When the College of Languages was established at the University of Baghdad in the academic year 1987\u20131988, these branches developed into independent scientific departments, reflecting the increased interest in learning the language and the enthusiasm to master it in a good manner commensurate with the place of the interest received.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department of Hebrew Language at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, is a specialized academic institution dedicated to the teaching of the Hebrew language and its literature. The department is distinguished by its specialized faculty and modern curricula that keep pace with academic advancements. It seeks to prepare qualified academic cadres possessing outstanding linguistic and research skills, capable of contributing to the labor market through translation, cultural communication, and the promotion of scientific and cultural understanding among peoples. This mission is pursued through the development of educational programs, support for scientific research, and the adoption of modern teaching methods and advanced educational technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aspire to contribute effectively to academic studies in media and counter-media studies, recognizing their importance to the future of the country, the region, and the wider world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aspire to serve as a key contributor to the nation by preparing specialists in the Hebrew language capable of working in sectors that require Hebrew proficiency, translation, analysis, and academic research in language, literature, and related fields.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aspire to assume a leading role in Semitic studies and support departments of Arabic, Syriac, Assyrian, and other Semitic languages, benefiting from students\u2019 foundation in both Arabic, the country’s native language, and Hebrew as an acquired Semitic language, thereby strengthening research in Semitic linguistics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aspire to play a major and essential role in archaeological studies related to the civilization and heritage of Iraq, as Hebrew contributes to the decoding and interpretation of texts written in Aramaic and Akkadian, which are cognate languages, in addition to texts written in Hebrew itself.<\/span><\/p>\n
