Department of English

After separating from the College of Arts to establish a college focused on the study of foreign languages, the Department of English was established along with the College of Languages in 1987. Due to the requirement for government entities to have specialist workers in the domains of language, literature, and translation, this department was established. The top textbooks available are divided into two categories: books written by professors with knowledge and specialization in the fields of English language and literature, and books that are unified internationally and used in most international universities. To support the country’s progressive scientific trend, this department has graduated many students with English bachelor’s degrees in addition to many students with master’s degrees. In order to promote the scientific movement, the department also plans to start PhD programs in the fields of translation, literature, and linguistics. There are several specialist professors in this department who have extensive backgrounds in their areas of expertise and who devote their all their efforts to promote this department’s position in the field by maintaining the highest standards. Translation of various papers in collaboration with the Advisory Office for Languages and Translation in the College of Languages is one of the activities carried out by the department’s academics. The department’s scientific activities, seminars, and conferences are all conducted to advance student education and promote our beloved Iraq, ensuring that this community will lead the way in the long march of life.

Vision The Department of English is looking forwards to having a high level of leadership in teaching and research locally, regionally, and internationally based on a practical scientific integrated approach and having excellent staff qualifications in the field of English language and translation to achieve knowledge and cultural communication with the nations around the world to serve society and keep up with current technology, based on the idea that English is the most widely spoken language in the world.
