Department of Kurdish
The roots of Kurdish academic education in Iraq go back to the University of Baghdad, where in 1959 the first Kurdish language department was established in the College of Arts with the best efforts of the enlightened Arabs and a group of Kurdish intellectuals who worked as teachers in it. In 1962, the department joined the Higher Institute of Languages, and in 1970 it joined the College of Arts again, where in 1959 the first Kurdish language department was established in the College of Arts with the best efforts of the enlightened Arabs and a group of Kurdish intellectuals who worked as teachers in it. In 1962, the department joined the Higher Institute of Languages, and in 1970 it again joined the Faculty of Arts. When the Faculty of Education IbnRushd was founded in 1973, one of its scientific departments was the Kurdish Language Department.
Noting that the department welcomes Kurdish-speaking students with the aim of teaching them the Kurdish language and its literature in order to qualify them to work as translators in institutions, the department plays an active role in developing the scientific competence of teachers and the capabilities of students in the morning and evening studies. This is done with the direct support of the dean. Like the other scientific departments in the college, the department of Kurdish arranges seminars, engages students in academic work, and participates in scientific, advisory, and cultural activities.
