Department of Syriac
The Syriac Language Department was established based on the recommendation of the Iraq Academic Academy, the Syriac Commission, and its vice president, Prof. Dr. Youssef Fawzi, was assigned to make every effort to achieve this.
As soon as possible. Approval was obtained to establish the Syriac language department in the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad under the letter of the Governing Council No. 1228 on March 31, 2004, and teaching began in the department in November 2004. The department graduates translators and staff specialized in the Syriac language, which contributes to teaching this language in secondary schools. In order to grow, develop, and modernize the Syriac language to suit the needs of the times in cooperation with the Syriac Language Authority in the Iraqi Scientific Academy, the department accepts graduates of preparatory studies in both its scientific and literary branches.
