College of Languages Highlights Environmental Issues in English Literature Through a master’s Thesis
The Department of English at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, discussed a master’s thesis titled “Environmental Collapse and Human Resilience in Margaret Atwood’s ‘Madd Addam’ Trilogy: An Eco‑Social Study” submitted by Zahraa Malik Abdul‑Naif.
The thesis aimed to shed light on the issue of environmental collapse as depicted by the Canadian author Margaret Atwood in her renowned Madd Addam trilogy, with a particular focus on the concept of human resilience and the ability to confront environmental challenges. The study concluded that integrating environmental issues and environmental justice into contemporary literary studies is essential, as it contributes to raising awareness about ecological imbalance and fostering a more balanced and sustainable relationship between humans and nature. The committee recommended that the researcher take into consideration the comments provided by its members.
