Master’s Thesis on a Comparative Lexical Study of Aramaic Economic Inscriptions

The Department of Syriac at the College of Languages examined the master’s thesis titled “A Comparative Lexical Study of Economic Terms in Aramaic Inscriptional Texts on Clay Tablets,” submitted by Sajad Sahi Abdul-Sahib Zgair.

The study aimed to compile economic terms found in Aramaic inscriptions engraved on clay tablets from a specific historical period, relying on published and edited texts. The researcher classified these terms into organized lists according to their economic domains (such as sale, purchase, weights, contracts, dates, etc.). The study also conducted comparative lexical analyses between these terms and their corresponding roots, documenting the lexical material to support scholars specializing in Aramaic and economic inscriptions from a purely linguistic perspective.

The committee recommended that the researcher incorporate the comments provided by the members.
