Master’s Thesis at the College of Languages Explores the Dialectic of Perception and Reality in August Strindberg’s Drama
The Department of English at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, discussed a master’s thesis titled “Perception and Reality in Selected Plays by August Strindberg” submitted by student Dina Imad Kati’.
The thesis aimed to deconstruct fixed meaning and identity in Strindberg’s plays The Stronger, Miss Julie, and The Father through the lens of Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction theory. The study shows how Strindberg’s dramatic works anticipate modern critiques of language as a force that simultaneously constructs and destabilizes the foundations of selfhood, gender identity, and social authority.
The research presents these three plays as foundational texts in the evolution of modern drama’s engagement with epistemological uncertainty and the crisis of representation.
The committee recommended accepting the thesis after making the required revisions.
The examination committee consisted of:
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Hind Naji Hussein – Chair
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Hussein Kazem Jallab – Member
- Lecturer Dr. Muna Abdul Kadhim Naama – Member
- Asst. Prof. Ihsan Mohsen Alwan – Supervisor
