The College of Languages Hosts Russian Language Festival with the Presence of the Russian Ambassador
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Languages, Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Mushwesh, the Russian Language Department’s cultural festival commenced on the morning of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, in the presence of a delegation from the Russian Embassy in Baghdad, along with several professors and students from the college.
The college administration welcomed His Excellency Elbrus Kotrashov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iraq, and his accompanying delegation to participate in the cultural day activities of the Russian Language Department. The festival opened with a speech by the Dean of the College, in which he expressed his gratitude to the attendees and acknowledged the international participation from the embassy and Russian universities, as well as their support for academic and cultural events at the College of Languages.
The festival featured various activities, including theatrical performances, singing, and poetry recitations, presented by faculty members and students, showcasing the cultural and literary aspects of the Russian language and literature. One of the highlights was a performance of the play The Bear, staged by a group of faculty members in Russian. The festival concluded with a rendition of the famous Russian song Katyusha, performed by a group of students from the department. For his part, the Russian Ambassador expressed his delight with the excellent organization of the festival, remarking that “mastering Russian poetry is not easy, even for native Russians.” He also extended his gratitude to the faculty of the Russian Language Department for their efforts in enhancing students’ linguistic proficiency. In her speech, Dr. Hadeel Ismail, Head of the Russian Language Department, praised the remarkable linguistic progress of the department’s students.
