College of Languages Discusses a master’s Thesis on Administrative Terminology in Old Aramaic

The Department of Syriac Language at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Administrative Terminology in Old Aramaic: A Comparative Semitic Linguistic Study” submitted by Baraa Najeeb Roiel Hanna under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muayyad Hussein Munshid.

The thesis sought to identify and classify terms denoting civil, religious, and military administrative positions found in the Aramaic sections of the Books of Daniel and Ezra. It also aimed to trace their Semitic linguistic roots and determine whether they originated from native Aramaic vocabulary or were borrowed from Akkadian and Persian.

The examination committee recommended that the researcher incorporate the scholarly observations raised during the defense and undertake the necessary revisions.

Examination Committee:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Haider Hassan Ubaid – Member
