The Department of English Discusses a master’s Thesis on the Mental Landscape in the Poetry of Patrick Kavanagh

The Department of English at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Exploring the Depths of the Mental Landscape in Selected Poems by Patrick Kavanagh” submitted by Anmar Hamed Majeed.

The thesis aimed to examine the poetry of the Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh through the lens of analytical psychology in order to uncover his psychological structure and the reflection of his people’s collective unconscious in his poetry. It also sought to explore the archetypal representations of the Irish landscape.

The study consisted of four chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter addressed Kavanagh’s life, literary works, and contributions to modern Irish poetry, in addition to the theoretical framework of the study. The second chapter examined his early phase as a rural poet.

At the conclusion of the defense, the examination committee recommended the acceptance of the thesis subject to the required revisions.
