The English Language Department at the College of Languages, on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, deliberated upon the Master’s thesis entitled “A Socio- Psychological Study of Beauty Ideals in Selected Novels by Scott Westerfeld,” presented by the Master’s student Amna Mohammed Abdul Kareem. The study examined a societal model centered around beauty ideals in selected novels by the American novelist Scott Westerfeld, demonstrating that the beauty constructed by societal norms and manipulated by influential entities embodies an unattainable and ephemeral fantasy.
Furthermore, the thesis explored how the continual manipulation of beauty ideals leads to the obfuscation of genuine beauty essence and exacerbates social stratification. Among the principal conclusions drawn from the study is that the incessant pursuit of beauty ideals contributes to the formation of an externally appealing yet internally conflicting self-image.
