Master’s Thesis Examines Modern Methods of Syriac Lexicography
The Department of Syriac Language at the College of Languages ​​at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Lexical Studies and Their Applications to Syriac Dictionaries – A Comparative Semitic Study” by student Mark Wathiq Saeed.
The thesis aimed to shed light on Syriac lexicography and its dictionaries, the most prominent linguists and lexicographers who have undertaken the experience of constructing Syriac lexicography, and the study of lexicographical applications.
The thesis also included a study of the method used by the Syriac lexicographer to construct his dictionary and organize his entries, comparing these applications with other dictionaries.
The thesis recommended the need to pay attention to the field of Syriac lexicographical studies and urged specialists to conduct research that addresses this aspect. It also emphasized the importance of conducting field studies that address Syriac dialects and document them in modern dictionaries.
The committee recommended that the researcher take into account the comments made by the committee members, and the thesis was accepted with a  Meet’s Requirement grade.
