College of Languages held its 11th Scientific Conference

College of Languages, University of Baghdad, held its 11th Scientific Conference on Saturday 12 April, 2025 entitled “Multiplicity of Languages and Diversity of Cultures in the 21st Century: Challenges and Chances.” Representing the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Suhail Najam Abdullah, university president’s assistant of scientific affairs, attended the conference, besides members of the Parliament, general directors, college deans, and academic professors. Prof. Dr. Ali Adnan Mashosh, Dean of the College of Languages, referred in his speech the deep dimensions of the title of the conference, emphasizing that languages and diversity of cultures become among the important characteristics of this age because of globalization, immigration, and new technology. This imposes great challenges and opens, at the same time, great scopes of academic cooperation and civilization interaction. He added, “the conference represents an opportunity to enhance communication among researchers, build fruitful, professional relations in teaching foreign languages, and develop academic skills of the participants.” He also explained that the conference would include a number of sessions and workshops that deal with the three pivots: language, translation, and literature.

 Prof. Dr. Abdullah praised in his speech the efforts of the college in organizing this academic event, considering it a commitment towards enhancing cultural exchange and promoting the scientific research, especially in language and translation. At the end of the conference, Prof. Dr. Thukaa Meteeb Hussein, dean assistant of scientific affairs, delivered her speech, encouraging cultural communication among different languages speakers in one country, besides developing teaching programs of literature as it is part of peoples’ cultures and languages. She also emphasized the role of programs offered by international universities and academic institutions and the influence of artificial intelligence of modern experience in teaching different languages and initiating new academic programs.

The conference came as part of the college’s efforts to support the scientific research. Additionally, the conference realized some of the goals of the sustainable development; the fourth goal is educating to achieve equality and build societies. Education improves infrastructure by promoting the university and its activities.
