A Symposium Explores the Use of Artificial Intelligence as an Enhancing Tool of Language Learning
On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Department of English at the College of Languages presented a symposium entitled “Enhancing Language Learning through Using Artificial Intelligence: Tools and Techniques.” The symposium is presented by lecturers from the Department, Lect. Dr. Maysaloun Khaled Ali and Asst. Lect. Farah Mu’ayyad Issa, and many faculty members were present.
The main objective of the symposium is to explain the concept of artificial intelligence and its various applications in language learning. It focuses on showing the tools and techniques of Artificial Intelligence that facilitate and develop the process of language learning, such as ChatGPT, Duolingo Max, and Grammarly. It also highlights the effectiveness of these technologies in enhancing the four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
The symposium included several main topics, beginning with an introduction to artificial intelligence and its basic concepts, along with an overview of the development of its use in education and the relationship between artificial intelligence and language learning.
The most prominent AI tools used in language teaching were presented and classified according to language proficiency, in addition to a comparison between traditional tools and AI tools. Furthermore, it addressed smart techniques for personalizing language learning by using AI to analyze learners’ errors and provide immediate feedback.
It also discussed the role of adaptive learning in improving learner performance, as well as the ethical and educational challenges associated with the use of AI in education and how to ensure the safe and responsible use of this technology. The researchers recommended the development of AI-based educational platforms that take into account individual differences among learners and provide immediate feedback. They emphasized the importance of building partnerships between universities and technology companies to develop smart educational tools and launch national initiatives to employ AI in language teaching.
The researchers encouraged students to use AI applications to improve their language skills and enhance teachers’ digital awareness of the potential and limitations of AI in education.
