A master’s thesis at the College of Languages explores Linguistic structure and its role in highlighting semantic meaning in the novel (Another Place)

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Department of Hebrew at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, held a discussion for the master’s thesis titled “Linguistic Analysis of the Novel  Another Place by Amos Oz – A Morphosyntactic Study” by graduate student Maysaa Kazem Hammadi.

The study aimed to analyze the morphological and syntactic structures in the novel and highlight their role in shaping meaning. It also explored the impact of language on character and event development.

The thesis examined syntactic constructions and their relationship to the plot and literary style. Furthermore, the research addressed how linguistic structure is employed to construct narrative meaning and enhance the aesthetic dimension of the text.

The thesis recommended encouraging researchers to study Oz’s works from an integrated linguistic perspective (morphology, syntax, and semantics), and to utilize linguistic analysis to better understand the cultural and intellectual depth of literary texts. The committee also advised the researcher to consider the feedback provided by the members during the discussion.
