Scientific Symposium at the College of Languages in Collaboration with the Spanish Embassy on Literary and Translation Bridges between Iraq and Spain
The College of Languages at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy, organized a scientific symposium titled ‘Bridges of Literature and Translation between Iraq and Spain: Experiences in Translating Poetry, Short Stories, and Novels’.
The event was attended by the Chargé d’Affaires at the Spanish Embassy, Ms Carmen Pujan, along with several Iraqi professors residing in Spain. Also present were the Dean of the College, Professor Dr Ali Adnan Mashoush, the assistant deans, faculty members, and staff of the college.
The symposium featured contributions from Dr Abdul Hadi Al-Saadoun, Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Complutense University of Madrid; Dr Muhsin Al-Ramli, Professor of Arabic Literature at Saint Louis University in Madrid; and the writer, storyteller, and visual artist Khalid Kaki. The symposium aimed to benefit from the expertise of expatriate professors in the fields of literature and translation, highlighting their academic and creative experiences. It also addressed ways to develop students’ skills to prepare them for careers in the academic and cultural sectors. At the conclusion of the symposium, the Dean of the College of Languages expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the guest speakers, commending their contributions to the development of Arabic literature and storytelling through their scholarly and creative work. He also reaffirmed the college’s commitment to organizing training courses in Spain to foster ongoing academic collaboration. In turn, the Chargé d’Affaires extended her thanks to the College of Languages for hosting this distinguished group of Iraqi authors, who are considered alumni of the college.
