College of Languages Discusses Master’s Thesis on Lexical and Contextual Meanings of Doubling and Hollow Verbs
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Department of Syriac Language at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, held a discussion session in Dr Ali Yahya Mansour Hall for the master’s thesis titled “Linguistic Convergence Between the Doubling Verb and the Hollow Verb in the Syriac Language – A Comparative Semitic Linguistic Study” by graduate student Maryam Basim Adnan.
The thesis aimed to explore the linguistic convergence between two types of Syriac verbs: the doubling verb, which belongs to the category of sound verbs, and the hollow verb, which is classified among weak verbs. The study included definitions of both verb types, their morphological patterns in both basic and augmented forms, and their conjugation with subject pronouns to identify their inflectional contexts. The committee recommended that the researcher incorporate the feedback provided during the discussion. The examination committee consisted of:
