A Faculty Member from the College of Languages Participates in an International Scientific Conference in Oman on Knowledge Integration and Sustainable Development
Dr. Ibtihal Mahdi Abdul Kareem, Associate Professor in the Department of English at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, participated in the international scientific conference titled “Knowledge Integration in the Humanities and Social Sciences to Achieve the Vision of Sustainable Development.”
The event was held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, with wide participation from specialized academics and researchers representing various Arab and international universities.
Her participation reflects the University of Baghdad’s commitment to supporting scientific and research activities, strengthening its academic presence in international forums, and engaging with contemporary research trends in the humanities and social sciences—particularly in areas related to discourse studies, digital media, and sustainable development.
Dr. Abdul Kareem presented a research paper titled:
“A Critical Discourse Analysis of English Hate Speech in Selected Digital Media Platforms with Reference to Its Translation into Arabic.”
The study examined English hate speech as manifested in selected digital media platforms, highlighting the challenges associated with translating this type of discourse. The research noted that academic attention to hate speech in digital spaces—especially in relation to translation—remains limited, opening new avenues for further scholarly investigation.
