The French Language Department at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad held an international gathering in honour of International Francophonie Day, marked on Tuesday, April 23. Guests included Mr. Pascal Rose, the French cultural attaché, representatives from the French Embassy in Baghdad, and other members of the French cultural centre in Baghdad. The invitation was extended by Dr. Enas Khalifa Al-Sharji, Director of the Department of Cultural Relations at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, the dean of the College of Languages and his assistants, Dr. Jaafar Abdel Zahra, Head of the French Language Department, as well as the College members of the department.
The French Language Department commemorated this occasion, which is considered one of the significant events that incorporates the total number of people who speak French throughout the globe. Under the guidance of the department chair and cultural committee, the students produced high-quality work, which included poetry, music, and other creative endeavours. As part of the festivities, there was a picture show chronicling the development of the French language, and the students participated in unique and exciting activities designed to evoke the outdoors.
Several outstanding students who were successful in the French DELPH test were recognized by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Adnan Mashwash, the dean of the College. Many College members, students, and department heads were also at the party. The audience lauded the students’ exceptional participation and amazing performance in cultural activities in the French language.
