The College of Languages Participates in the Regional Mediation Training Course in Beirut
Two MA students from the French Department at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad—Massa Latif Mahmoud and Aya Taha Abdul-Jabbar—participated in the Regional Mediation Training Course held in Beirut from May 20 to 22, 2025.
The course was organized by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) in the Middle East, in partnership with the Professional Mediation Center at Saint Joseph University.
The training aimed to strengthen fundamental concepts of mediation and to highlight the mediator’s role as a neutral facilitator who helps parties in conflict engage in constructive dialogue without judgment or bias.
The course addressed the types of conflict and their stages of development, with a focus on learning effective communication and active listening skills—two key tools in deescalating tensions and rebuilding trust.
The program featured mediation games, conflict resolution simulations, oral presentations, and interactive discussions with the audience. It offered participants a valuable opportunity to acquire new skills, engage in meaningful exchange, and reflect collectively on ways to foster a culture of dialogue and tolerance within our institutions and communities.
This participation also reflects the University’s ongoing commitment through its specialized departments, including the French Department at the University of Baghdad to supporting and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 17, which emphasizes strengthening regional and international partnerships in support of education and development.
