A delegation from the German Goethe-Institute Visits the College of Languages to Enhance Academic Cooperation
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, a delegation from the German Goethe-Institute—Mr. Klaus Walter, Head of the German Language Department (Deputy Director of the Institute), and Mr. Ghassan Almamir—visited the College of Languages.
Upon their arrival, they were warmly received by Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Mushawash, Dean of the College, along with the associate deans, Assistant Professor Maysoon Ali, Chair of the German Language Department, and several faculty members from the department.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance academic and cultural collaboration between the two institutions. During the discussions, both parties explored various initiatives aimed at developing the German Language Department. These initiatives included the support of cultural and academic exchange programs with German institutes and universities, the introduction of modern curricula that emphasize communicative and cultural competencies, the provision of free digital learning resources in partnership with the Goethe-Institute, and the organization of summer courses in Germany for both faculty and students.
The Dean underscored the significance of support from the Goethe-Institute and the German Embassy for the faculty and students of the department. This support facilitates their academic pursuits in German-speaking countries and promotes the activation of the German Corner at the college. He highlighted that the German Department, as the sole institution of its kind in Iraq, should receive particular attention.
Mr. Klaus Walter expressed his satisfaction at being present at the College of Languages, emphasizing the Goethe-Institute’s dedication to enhancing academic and cultural collaboration in Baghdad. He elucidated that the purpose of his visit was to familiarize himself with the college, the faculty of the German department, and the students, as well as to explore suitable avenues for offering comprehensive support to the department.
Accompanied by the Dean, the delegation conducted a comprehensive tour of the college’s facilities, which included an exploration of the library and classrooms of the German Department. Additionally, Mr. Klaus Walter engaged in a meeting with a group of students who showcased their proficiency in the German language, thereby leaving a positive impression on him.
This visit represents a significant advancement in efforts to enhance cultural and academic relations between the College of Languages and the Goethe-Institute, thus contributing to the progress of educational initiatives within the German Language Department.
