The study aimed at identifying the contemporary Iraqi novel and constructing novel characters according to modern literary criticism .
The study included the technique of description in the novel texts, the place with its antithetical dualities, the spatial relationships that played an effective role in the novel narrative, the writer’s choice of names for his characters that carry semiotic signs, some of which indicate the meaning of conformity and some of which depend on the meaning of paradox .
The most important results reached by the study are that researchers should study Iraqi novels published after 2003, as they are more mature from an artistic standpoint, and more free in expression and to choose the serious and meaningful works of them that shed light on social reality and whose goal is to educate the reader and recipient .
