College of Languages Organizes a Symposium on Legal Enlightenment and the Role Played by the Media in Rejecting Violence Among University Youths
Department of Media and Government Communication, in collaboration with the Human Rights Unit at the College of Languages, organized a symposium entitled “Legal Enlightenment for Rejecting Violence Among University Youths”, on Sunday 1-12-2024. Prof. Arwa Fakhry Abdel Latif, Ph.D., and Dr. Suhad Adnan Chaloob presented their lectures. The symposium aimed at shedding light on the concept of violence, its forms, the causes behind its spread, and its negative influence on society. With a focus on the role of the media in fighting against violence and relevant crimes, which have increased as a result of economic, social and cultural challenges. The symposium was made to include two themes, the first dealt with the importance of enhancing a legal enlightenment procedure to reject violence, so as to highlight the role of legislations in confronting this phenomenon in cooperation with various institutions, including international organizations, and so as to adopt the best ways in fighting against violence and protecting victims.
The second theme came to make clear the role played by the media in controlling crimes of violence.
At the end, the researchers recommended the need to enhance the role of the media in disseminating content with the aim of building a culture of tolerance and rejection of violence, with the development of media strategies that would spread correct religious values in a way that attracts youths, the need to update the Penal Code to include reference to new forms of violence, such as  electronic violence, strengthening procedures of execution by training members of the security services to deal with cases of violence, and the importance of making community aware of reporting cases of violence.
