The Australian Ambassador Visits the College of Languages
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Dr. Ali Adnan Mushawash, the Dean of the College of Languages, welcomed His Excellency Glen Miles, the Australian Ambassador, along with his accompanying delegation, in his office. The meeting was attended by the esteemed assistants and Dr. Rasha Abdul-Ridha Saeed, the Head of the English Department.
During the meeting, the Dean provided an overview of the College of Languages, including its history and the nature of the academic programs offered in the English Department. He also discussed the increasing interest among students in learning foreign languages, the challenges they face in their studies, and the demand for the college’s graduates in the job market.
The two parties explored ways to maintain international communication and the importance of fostering cultural cooperation by sending English Department students to Australia for training courses aimed at enhancing their language skills.
Additionally, a gathering took place between the Ambassador and the faculty and students of the English Department, where they reviewed the current teaching practices and discussed potential improvements in line with modern teaching methodologies. Students presented a discussion on the cultural, environmental, and social differences between Iraq and Australia, along with literary works by an Australian poet. The Ambassador expressed his admiration for the students’ proficiency in English. Furthermore, the Ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to making efforts to enhance collaboration.
