Lecture about ” Zero Theory of Universal Grammar”  

Department of English Language held a lecture entitled ” Zero Theory of Universal Grammar” presented by Prof. Dr. Sanaa Albayati, a specialist researcher and scholar in Arabic language. The lecture was about this theory that explains the relationship between language as a communication tool and thought as a cognitive process. The lecture focused on both the theoretical depth and the critical analysis and aimed at re- understanding the language as a social and educational phenomenon. The lecturer dealt with the subject through different pivots. The first one was zero theory, highlighting the role of environment and social classes. Then, she discussed the relationship between language and thought, contending that language contributed directly to thought orientation and cognition formation. The lecturer also emphasized the necessity of updating the curriculum. The final pivot was about the critical theory that is used to analyze Arabic language development. The lecturer clarified how this language was affected by social and cultural factors.

At the end of the lecture, Dr. Albayati recommended a re-evaluation of teaching methods of Arabic language and enhancing its presence in the social and intellectual life for its importance in building awareness. She also concluded by encouraging to benefit from the modern research in educational curriculum in order to elevate the intellectual and linguistic education.
