Master’s Thesis at the College of Languages Sheds Light on Writing Errors in French Language Learning
On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Department of French Language at the College of Languages held a discussion of the master’s thesis entitled:
“A Linguistic Study of Written Errors Among French Language Learners at the University of Baghdad – College of Languages”,
submitted by the student Noor Al-Huda Kareem Karmal.
The study aimed to highlight the phenomenon of written errors among students in the French Department, viewing them as a natural reflection of learners’ proficiency and indicators of remediable weaknesses. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying the underlying causes of such errors.
The thesis featured a thorough analysis of various written samples from students across academic levels, explored the theoretical concept of error, assessed the influence of the adopted curriculum, and provided an academic evaluation of the errors.
The study concluded with several recommendations, including the enhancement of students’ spelling and grammar skills, encouragement of autonomous writing without over-reliance on the internet, the development of linguistic independence through consistent practice, integration of modern technological tools, and the provision of intensive remedial instruction targeting frequently recurring difficulties.
