College of Languages Inaugurates German Corner to Promote Cultural and Academic Cooperation
On Tuesday, October 15, 2025, the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad inaugurated the German Corner within the Department of German Language, in collaboration with the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Baghdad and the Goethe-Institut. This initiative aims to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation between both sides.
The Dean of the College of Languages, Professor Dr Ali Adnan Mashoush, and Professor Maisoon Ali Razouqi, Head of the German Language Department, oversaw the opening ceremony, with the attendance of Mr Magnus Obermann, Counsellor for Internal Political and Cultural Affairs at the German Embassy, along with his accompanying delegation. Also, a delegation from the Goethe-Institute, represented by the Institute’s Director, Mr Thomas and Mr Ghassan Al-Maamar, participated in the event in addition to several faculty members and students from the department. The guests, accompanied by the Dean, toured the German Language Department’s classrooms to observe the learning environment and student activities. The tour was followed by a meeting between the faculty members and the German delegation. The inauguration of the German Corner marks a new milestone in the cultural collaboration between the University of Baghdad and the German Embassy, with the goal of expanding scientific and linguistic communication and fostering mutual understanding between the Iraqi and German peoples.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Director of the Goethe-Institut extended an official invitation to the faculty of the German Language Department to participate in a training course scheduled for December 4–6 of this year.
