Under the Auspices of the Dean of the College of Languages, Asst. Prof. Ali Adnan Mashoush, Ph.D., the Department of Media and Government Communication, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit, organized a symposium on the International Anti-Corruption Day and the annual Integrity Week on Thursday (14/12/2023) with the participation of a group of professors, namely Asst. Prof.  Irwa Fakhry Abdel Latif, Ph.D.,  Asst. Prof. Sana Khadakaram Aziz, Ph.D.,   Dr. Fadhil Abbas Al-Muhammadawi – Dr. Suhad Adnan Challoob. In the symposium, several papers were presented. The first presented a historical view of corruption and its development in societies and its types, which might be either Political, Administrative or Financial. Then, a paper dealing with the role of civil community organizations in fighting corruption in the Iraqi community was delivered, followed by a paper on the corruption in academic research in universities, and eventually, a paper on the media and its role in fighting corruption was presented. The symposium was closed with a number of recommendations, and one important recommendation was one which emphasized that corruption is a social disease that should be fought by spreading awareness. Second, the role of all civil community organisations and the media as being of supervisory duties should be emphasized so as to enable the exposition and fighting of aspects of political, administrative and financial corruption.
