The Human Rights Unit at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Role of Society in Combating Extremism, Terrorism, and Drug Abuse” on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. The seminar took place in the seminar hall of the Persian Language Department and was attended by a number of faculty members and students of the college.
Participating in the seminar were faculty members of the unit (Dr. Arwa Fakhri Abdul Latif, Dr. Sanaa Khadakram Aziz, Dr. Fadel Abbas Jabbar, and Dr. Abbas Fadel Mahmoud). The aim of the seminar was to shed light on the negative phenomena that have emerged in Iraqi society after 2003, such as extremism, terrorism, and drug abuse, as well as the role of the state and society in combating them.
One of the key recommendations emphasized the role of national legislation in combating these phenomena and punishing their perpetrators, along with highlighting the role of families and communities in monitoring their children against the risks of these phenomena. Additionally, the role of organizations, communication channels, and universities in raising awareness about the dangers of these phenomena on youth in general, and university students in particular, was underscored.
