A Faculty Member from the College of Languages Receives a Certificate of Appreciation from Herzen State University
Assistant Lecturer Mohamed Khamees Ghabn, Director of the Media and Government Communication Unit at the College of Languages, participated in a conversation club organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. He gave an online lecture titled “Connection points in Culture, Literature, and Education between Baghdad and St. Petersburg,” attended by students and professors specializing in Arabic and Russian. This participation is part of the scientific and cultural cooperation between the University of Baghdad and Russian universities. The aim was to strengthen cultural ties between the Iraqi and Russians by highlighting the teaching of the Russian language and Russian literature at the College of Languages, as well as introducing the most significant cultural and historical landmarks of Baghdad.
The lecture included topics such as an introduction to the host university and what makes it distinctive in terms of its scientific and cultural significance. It also covered the lecturer’s personal experience and the challenges he faced during his studies in Russia.
The students and professors showed great interaction, asking a variety of questions about translation experiences, the differences between Russian and Arabic literature, and the importance of studying the Arabic language at Russian universities. At the end of the lecture, the faculty member was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation.
It is worth noting that Assistant Lecturer Mohamed Khamees holds a Master’s degree in Russian literature from Saint Petersburg State University. He has participated in numerous scientific events both inside and outside Iraq and has several translation works in the fields of literature, philosophy, and history.
