Awareness Seminar on Commemorating the Martyrs of Speicher in Iraqi Memory
The Human Rights Unit at the College of Languages organized a seminar titled “Commemorating the Martyrs of Speicher” on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
The seminar was attended by Major General Qasim Karim Mislih, Commander of the Western Anbar Operations – Popular Mobilization Forces, alongside the Dean of the College, the assistant deans, and a distinguished group of faculty members and students.
The seminar addressed one of the most heinous crimes committed by the terrorist organization ISIS, presenting a detailed account of the Speicher massacre, in which more than 1,700 martyrs were brutally killed near the Al-Speicher Airbase in Tikrit in 2014.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, the most prominent of which included shedding light on the dark period Iraq endured after 2003, particularly with the rise of terrorist organizations and their brutal crimes against various religions and sects.
The researcher also recommended raising awareness among university students about the Speicher massacre and ensuring the commemoration of the soldiers who were martyred in this treacherous act.
In his remarks, Major General Musleh emphasized the importance of documenting historical events to prevent their recurrence, while also reinforcing the concepts of justice and fairness for the victims.
