College of Languages Hosted the Ambassador of The Republic of the Philippines

Prof. Dr. Ali Adnan Mashosh, Dean of the College of Languages, received the Ambassador of The Republic of the Philippines in Iraq , Mr. Charlie P. Manangan, on Thursday, 27 March, 2025 in a visit to enhance the cultural and academic relations between The Republic of the Philippines and Iraq. Both parties discussed during this meeting the procedures of signing a project agreement to translate a novel by Jose Rizal, a national hero of Philippines.

The novel is entitled Touch Me Not that is considered one of the most important Filipino literary works. It reflects the Filipino people’s experience and national values. The novel will be translated from Spanish language into Arabic language by the professors of Department of Spanish language in the College of Languages.

This will expand the scope of Filipino literature and help in understanding the Filipino culture in the Arab world.

 Ambassador Manangan indicated that this is an important project for him and the Filipino people, contending that it will play a significant role in enhancing the cultural relations between the two countries. He also valued the efforts of the college in sponsoring such cultural initiatives that promote the mutual understanding. The two parties discussed the scope of the academic cooperation with Iraqi universities, especially University of Baghdad, and Filipino universities.

This visit comes as part of the effort of the college to expand the international and academic cooperation with other countries. This cooperation is expected to enrich the learning experience of students and open new horizons in study and research. 

At the end of the meeting, the Dean of the college expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his visit and emphasized the commitment of the college towards strengthening the cultural and academic relations with Philippines. College of Languages aims to contribute to the goals of the sustainable development (SDGs); the seventeenth goal is represented by making agreements to improve the cultural and academic relations between both parties.
