Environmental and Sustainability Policies of the University of Baghdad
The University of Baghdad keeps pace with international developments in the field of environment and sustainability and responds to changing international standards and requirements through adopting a flexible policy and amending it accordingly. As the university is aware of its responsibility for the environmental impacts resulting from its activities, and due to its desire to provide better environment for future generations, specific goals have been set to organise the procedures for preserving the environment.
The College of Languages is environmentally friendly
The College of Languages is environmentally friendly and is keen to implement its vision of creating a sustainable environment suitable for students and faculty staff in the college without affecting the natural and environmental resources. The college is striving to protect the environment, which is an integral part of sustainable development. This requires applying organised environmental techniques and promoting environmental awareness.
Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable development goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the Earth’s environment and climate, and ensure that people everywhere enjoy peace and prosperity.
The College of Languages aims to contribute to many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through its support for cultural activities and the importance of learning languages and within its goals is contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals:
– Third goal: Good health and well-being. The College of Languages cooperates with relevant parties by holding awareness seminars and workshops in the field of promoting the health reality in society.
– Fourth goal: Quality education. Students receive quality education in the language and culture of various foreign languages through cooperation with foreign universities and bringing in visiting professors and holding scientific seminars, and paying attention to the quality of education, which will help them succeed in their studies and careers.
– Fifth goal: Gender equality. Students of both sexes receive good education in various foreign languages, in addition to learning the principles of computer science, holding awareness workshops in various fields, and enabling women to take equal opportunities with their male peers.
– Sixth goal: Clean water and sanitation. The College of Languages organises an awareness workshop on the National Initiative for Energy, Water and Emission Reduction for the purposes of awareness and the achievement of sustainable development goals in the field of clean water and sanitation.
– Eighth goal: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Students will be able to find suitable work and contribute to the economic growth of Iraq after competing their studies. This is due to holding development courses inside and outside Iraq that the College of Languages offers to its students during their study and after graduation.
– Tenth goal: Reducing inequality. Students from all over Iraq will have the opportunity to learn about the language and culture of foreign countries whose mother tongue is taught at the College of Languages. This will help reduce inequality in the country.
– Seventeenth goal: Establishing partnerships to achieve goals. The College of Languages cooperates with various embassies working in Iraq by signing memoranda of understanding between the University of Baghdad and foreign universities of countries that speak the mother tongue and which the college teaches in its departments in order to achieve best education and acquire scientific skills in the field of specialty.
