Within the framework of scientific cooperation and international openness to the educational cooperation with the embassies in Iraq, a delegation from the French embassy represented by Mrs. Christine Korjo, the Educational and Linguistic Cooperation Attaché in the French Embassy in Baghdad, visited the College of Languages. The delegation was received on Monday morning , October 9, by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Mshawash and Assistant Professor Dr. Jaafar Abdel. Al-Zahra, Head of the Department of French language, and Assistant Professor Ammar Abdel Razzaq, Head of the Department of Syriac language. During the visit Mrs. Korjo toured the classrooms and met with the professors and students of the department discussing curricula -related matters and how to improve the linguistic skills by availing of the professors’ experience. Expressing her point of view, Korjo stressed the role and importance of the language as a means to learn about French culture and civilization.
Such visits, which are carried out by various delegations, are a result of an international openness that aims at achieving sustainable development goals. However , achieving such goals necessitates a need for students to receive a good education through engaging and mixing with native speakers.
Enthusiastically, students availed of this visit as an opportunity to hold conversations with Mrs. Korjo focusing on how to pronounce letters and syllables stress.
This partnership comes as a result of cooperation between the University of Baghdad – College of Languages and the French Embassy which will support the establishment of a French corner at the College of Languages.
Through its support for cultural activities and stressing the importance of learning languages, the College of Languages aims at achieving the goals of sustainable development. The realization of such development is seen through the efforts of the French delegation represented by Mrs. Korjo, university officials, faculty members and students. In this vein , efforts are exerted to enhance cooperation and partnerships among various segments of society which go hand in hand with the principles of Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals. This can be achieved through concerted efforts between academia, governments and other related sectors.
