Instructor (Maha K. Karim) gave a seminar on her paper entitled “Using Multi-faceted Rasch Models to Understand Middle School Students’ Argumentation Around Scenarios Grounded in Socio-scientific Issues.” Professors and graduate students attended the seminar. The paper has been published earlier in Springer. The seminar aimed to investigate the use of writing as a framework for engaging students in debate. One of the most important recommendations of the seminar is that measuring some writing practices is useful, such as argumentation, in addition to the importance of variation in methods of teaching in diverse students communities.
