The Languages Department organized a workshop focused on digital skills in both consecutive and simultaneous translation.
The Employment and Qualification Unit, in collaboration with the Persian Language Department at the College of Languages, hosted a training session titled “Soft Skills and Digital Skills in Consecutive and Simultaneous Translation.” The workshop featured presentations from Mr. Ivan Karim, Ms. Banan Hassan, and Mr. Jassim Majid, and was attended by several faculty members and students from the college.
The primary objective of the workshop was to prepare students from the Persian Language Department for the job market by introducing them to essential translation skills, the significance of practical translation experience, and the use of modern technologies in the field.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations for achieving success in the translation industry, emphasizing the importance of mastering both languages. Translation involves more than merely transferring words; it requires a profound understanding of both languages and their respective cultures, as well as engaging with literature and current events.
Additionally, watching films in both languages was suggested to enhance linguistic and expressive skills. It is also crucial to develop knowledge and accurately familiarize oneself with terminology in specific fields of translation, such as literature, law, or medicine, which can provide graduates with a competitive edge in the job market.
Furthermore, the necessity of utilizing modern technologies, such as Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, was highlighted to improve efficiency and accuracy. However, it was noted that these tools should not be relied upon entirely but rather serve as aids to facilitate the translation process.
