The College of Languages and Multiculturalism, Opening of the Italian Language Week Activities in the Presence of His Excellency the Italian Ambassador
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Languages, Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Mashawash, the activities of the Italian Language Week in the World were opened in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Iraq under the title (Italian and the Book, a World Between the Lines), and in the presence of His Excellency the Italian Ambassador, Mr. Nicolo Fontana, accompanied by the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy, Dr. Claudia Gatta.
At the beginning, His Excellency (the Italian Ambassador) thanked the Deanship of the College and the Department of the Italian Language for the good organization of this event, which is supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized every year in all parts of the world. He stated that the embassy is happy with this scientific partnership with the College of Languages.
The Professors and students of the Department of the Italian Language attended the celebration. The week included several important scientific activities. The most important of which were two lectures by Dr. Giuseppe Maugeri from the University of Urbino, on the importance of books and literary texts in teaching Italian. The other lecture was by Professor Ahmed Al-Asadi – former professor of translation at the Department of the Italian Language – on the role of translation as a bridge between cultures, in addition to Professor Maugeri holding a training course in the Italian language for the students of the department that lasted 9 hours divided over two consecutive days.
The delegation and Professor Maugeri praised the good level of the students of the department, their style of dialogue, their high potential for linguistic understanding and good commitment. For his part, the Italian Ambassador expressed his happiness) and pride that a third of the study grants (short- and long-term scholarships) to Iraqi students are for students of the College of Languages.
The Dean of the College also referred in his speech to the role of the college in receiving foreign delegations. He also stated that the Italian Language in particular is the language of culture, art and music, and it has always given us its splendor and the beauty of its aspects.
