On Wednesday morning, January 24, 2024, the Department of Russian Language at the Faculty of Languages – Baghdad University discussed the master’s thesis entitled (Derivation of the name of the machine in the Russian and Arabic languages and the bases of its translation) by researcher Zahir Jassim Ziyara with the international participation of a Russian teacher from Kazan University as a member of the discussion. (Derivation is a linguistic phenomenon in the Arabic and Russian languages and is a major source of enriching linguistic dictionaries by extracting words and vocabulary. It is taken from the word (slit), and in terminology it is the extraction of a word and taking it from another word that shares with it grammatical or phonetic characteristics in the Arabic language and the union of the two derived and produced words with the same root in the Russian language to express a new meaning that suits the original meaning of the word.

The way to know it is by turning the morphology of the word until it returns from it to the abstract source form, which is the first form of the word, and from here comes the necessity to explain the function of derivation in the language, through which we recognize the vocabulary of the language that adds the valuable linguistic wealth, and what it created and left us from the unique linguistic treasure in the two languages under research.

Translation is a great means of communication between cultures and peoples that helps in transferring information from one language to another, and helps people express what is on their minds if they are communicating in another language with people from foreign cultures. Translation is defined in language as clarification and clarification, while in terminology it is an ancient human activity that aims to interpret the meanings within texts and transform them from the source language to the target language.

In this thesis, we have addressed these two important issues of derivation and translation, in which we dealt with the concept of derivation and its general linguistic methods and addressed a set of basic investigations regarding the focus of the research (machine name) as a lexical category and part of speech in the Russian and Arabic languages.

The committee recommended the opinion of the Russian discussant from Kazan State University in the Russian Federation.
