As part of enhancing cultural and scientific knowledge, the Syriac Language Department organized a field visit to the Iraqi Manuscript House.
This cultural institution, founded in 1940, is the most important and largest manuscript house in Iraq and the Arab world, and one of the most prominent in the world.
It contains more than 44,000 manuscript volumes, in addition to a collection of paintings, calligraphic pieces, and decorations.
The visiting delegation was headed by the Head of the Syriac Language Department, Prof. Dr. Mu’ayyad Hussein Manshid, and was accompanied by a group of faculty members from the department, along with graduate students.
They were received by several members of the House’s administrative body, who briefed the attendees on the House’s holdings and the history of its manuscripts.
The delegation was also briefed on the valuable manuscripts and their restoration methods using the latest restoration and digital archiving technologies.
The concerned parties affirmed the House’s willingness to provide support and cooperation with researchers to study the manuscripts that represent the country’s national heritage. A visit to the Iraqi Manuscripts House serves various purposes, ranging from scientific research to cultural exploration. From a scientific perspective, the house is a treasure trove for researchers in various fields. It houses rare manuscripts covering various aspects of human knowledge, such as science, arts, literature, and history, as well as masterpieces of Islamic art, such as Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation.
