Academics and students of the Department of Dramatic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts hosted a group of academics and students of the Department of English at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
In addition to providing English Department students with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of theater and how to embody literary texts taught on stage, the visit aimed to strengthen academic and cultural ties and relations between the colleges of the University of Baghdad.
An introductory lecture on acting techniques, the actor, and character embodiment on stage was delivered by theater professors. The fine arts students presented brief excerpts from both foreign and local works, which were warmly received by the audience.
Two English Department students gave two different presentations on behalf of the College of Languages, and both of them were well received by the audience. Hardan Mohammed, a master’s student, performed a scene in English from the play Macbeth in the first scene. Muslim Nabil, a student at the second class, performed an English song with rap music that told the Macbeth story in the second scene.
Both Dr. Mahmoud Jabbari Hafidh, the head of the Department of Dramatic Arts, and Dr. Hanadi Salah Ezzat, a theater professor, expressed their gratitude for the visit and the two colleges’ continued collaboration.
