The College of Languages at the University of Baghdad hosted its First International Scientific Conference on June 12-13, with a diverse and wide-ranging international participation. The conference featured an important panel discussion with Mr. Maurizio Greganti, the Italian Ambassador in Baghdad, and Professor Roberto Tottoli, President of the University of Naples. Professor Haider Zweir moderated the session.
The panel focused on the role of religions in European studies, with particular emphasis on the Quran and its interaction with Europe throughout the ages. The two guests explained that the Quran significantly influenced the European perspective on Islam and Muslims, noting that the University of Naples was one of the first academic institutions in Europe to study the Quranic publications and excerpts that were disseminated on the continent.
Mr. Greganti and Dr. Tottoli also discussed various aspects of cooperation between Italian and Iraqi institutions, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnerships in fields such as language and archaeology, among other academic and cultural areas. They stressed the need for continued collaboration to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen relations between the two countries.
The session concluded with an exchange of ideas and proposals on developing joint studies and enhancing cultural exchange between Iraq and Italy, contributing to broadening the horizons of knowledge and understanding between different cultures. At the end of the session, the president of the University of Baghdad awarded the conference shield to the guests in appreciation of their attendance and support for the conference.
