Prof. Nejdat Yashir Murad, Ph.D., Head of Department Turkish at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad, participated in the 10th International Conference on Turkish Popular Culture, which was organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Ankara, for the period from 11 to 13 December. He was a member of the Scientific Committee to evaluate the submitted papers.

Beside being the chairperson of one of the sessions of the conference, Prof.. Nejdat Yashir Murad, Ph.D., delivered a paper on Turkmen mythology and its role in spreading popular culture among the members of society. This was  based on a pre-conducted field study of this subject via a personally made  collection of mythological texts from different sources.  He analysed these myths and compared them with their counterparts in different Turkish societies.

About 230 academics and researchers from various Turkish universities and other countries participated in the conference. He was honoured with the Shield of Academic Excellence by Mrs. Emina Erdogan, wife of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Rajab Tayyib Erdogan, during the event held at the presidential complex in the Turkish capital, Ankara, in the presence of Minister of Culture and Tourism Muhammad Noori Ozturk, where topics related to Turkish popular culture, methods for studying it, the most recent academic  studies conducted in this field, and solutions that would overcome difficulties in this field were addressed to enable academics to reach the proposed objectives.
